Hey Wahoos! My name is Xander Schreck and I’m a rising senior and swimmer at Old Dominion University, where I'm studying mechanical engineering along with a minor in modeling & simulation engineering. I’ve been swimming for about 15 years with NOVA Swimming and a few different neighborhood teams, including many summers here at Woodmont. Along with that, I've spent four years teaching swim lessons at NOVA and two years assistant coaching at Ginter Park. I’m excited to be part of the Wahoos this season and look forward to meeting and working with swimmers of all ages and skill levels. My goal as a coach is to create a positive, supportive, and energetic environment where swimmers can challenge themselves, build friendships and lifelong memories, and most importantly, have fun! Let's make it a great season together -- go Wahoos!
Coach Sophia is excited to be returning for her third year of swim coaching at WRA. She has swum at Woodmont for the past 10 years and she is excited to continue making memories with the team. Outside of Woodmont, she will be going into her Senior year at James River High School and is an active member of both the theater and rowing team. She is looking forward to sharing her swimming passion with the team and to see the growth within the community.
I’m super pumped to be part of the Woodmont coaching team again this season! I love this team and have been a proud Wahoo for going on 11 years. Swimming is something that I am very passionate about, and it has had a massive influence on my life. I want everyone to experience the companionship, spirit, and general fun that this sport has brought me for so many years. I have swum year round for NOVA, Swim RVA, and the YMCA, and always for Woodmont in the summer, of course. For two years I helped coach the Junior Wahoos to get them ready for the team, so I hope that I can be a familiar face to them as they join the larger group. My main goals as a coach are to not only improve our swimmers' physical abilities, but also to make sure that this team and this pool are a fun and safe space for everyone to enjoy. I believe that sportsmanship is key to having fun no matter who the swimmer is. I’m looking forward to a great swim season this summer.
We are thrilled that Coach Mason will be returning to coach the Wahoos! Mason Laine has been coaching diving since 1986. She has enjoyed leading summer league teams in both Richmond Metropolitan Aquatics League and James River Aquatic League in Richmond, VA. Her unique experience as both a collegiate diver (James Madison University) and a coach of many decades allows her to relate the science of diving to competitors of all ages. Nearly half a decade of coaching St. Catherine's and St. Christopher's high schools has enabled her to understand the needs of more experienced athletes. We look forward to another great year with Coach Mason leading the dive team!
I am excited to return to one of my favorite summer activities in a new role this season. I’m proud to be coaching alongside Coach Mason and continuing my involvement with a sport that has been a significant part of my life. I have nine years of diving experience with JRAC and the high school league, and this will be my fifth season with Woodmont.
I look forward to sharing my passion for diving with all of my athletes and helping them grow, improve, and enjoy the sport throughout the season.
