Parents & Guardians

Here is some essential information to help prepare you and your swimmer to have a fantastic season!

Team Mission

To create a summer league team opportunity for our community’s youth swimmers and divers to develop their skills to the best of their ability and to help provide them with the experience and techniques necessary for a lifetime of water safety and enjoyment. Our program is guided by the principles of good sportsmanship, teamwork, individual and team improvement, competitiveness with a focus on fun, and the cultivation of a supportive community spirit, committed to kindness, inclusivity, and mutual respect.

From the beginning of the season to the end there will be a lot of growth. We are excited to be a part of your family’s summer!

Best Ways to Support Your Swimmers

Team involvement creates an opportunity for the entire family to be a part of the activities and to develop connections and friendships in the Woodmont community that will extend well beyond the swim and dive season. The Aquatics Committee and the coaching staff rely on family participation at meets and events to make everything run smoothly. Each athlete’s family will have a volunteer requirement that can be met in a wide variety of ways throughout the season.

Parents and guardians can support their athletes, the coaching staff, and the swim and dive program by maintaining a positive attitude about effort and performance with their athletes and the team, refraining from sideline coaching during practices and meets, and consistently reinforcing the team’s commitment to good sportsmanship, teamwork, kindness, and mutual respect of effort and all levels of ability. Keep it positive!

Communication with Coaches

Coaches need to be fully available to swimmers during practices and meets. Please contact coaches outside of these times via email or REMIND text and if needed to set up a time to discuss something.

Also encourage your Swimmers to talk to the Coaches about any goals, concerns, help, or questions they may have!

Swimmer Expectations

The primary goal for all of our athletes should be to have fun while learning and developing their swim and dive skills! Athletes should prioritize attendance at practices and meets and give their all when they are in the water and on the pool deck, to the best of their ability.

Athletes will be respectful to coaches and each other and support and encourage their teammates at meets and practices, always remembering that cheering is as important as competing. Woodmont prides itself on a long history of recognized good sportsmanship.

Swimmers should wear appropriate gear:

-Caps: prevent hair from getting in your face, eliminate drag so swimmers can swim faster, keep hair out of the Pool. Swimmers are required to wear their team cap for meets.

-Hair: if swimmers have long hair and do not want to wear a swim cap for practice they will need to have their hair pulled back.

-Goggles: protect your eyes, increase visibility in the water, it's good to have a few pairs in case swimmer’s goggles get lost!

-Suits: Swimmers should wear their team suit to compete, if they do not have a team suit, a black and dark blue suit (team colors) is accepted by the league.

JRAC rules state: no tie-back suits at meets & suits cannot go past the knee.

Volunteer Info

Swim meets are one of the most fun parts of swim team. It takes A LOT of volunteers to make each meet happen so just like most summer swim teams, Woodmont relies on parent volunteers. Click here for more volunteer information.

Having enough Volunteers means the meets start on time, run on time and run smoothly. Not to mention your Swimmer will be cheering you on, too!

Woodmont Pool is an amazing community and we are all lucky to be a part of it. Go Wahoos!
