Woodmont Wahoos Swim & Dive Summer 2021 Update

Woodmont Swim & Dive Families,

It’s almost time to jump back in the pool! The Aquatics Committee has been hard at work planning for a fantastic 2021 Swim & Dive Season for our Woodmont Wahoos. While there are still some details pending as our league, JRAC (James River Aquatics Club), makes final determinations of safety guidelines and rules, we will be having a fun, competitive season while adhering to standards of safety from the CDC, Commonwealth of Virginia, and USA Swimming during the 2021 Swim and Dive season.

  • Visit the updated Woodmont Wahoos website for the latest information
  • Registration for Swim and Dive will open at the end of April
  • Woodmont will swim and dive competitively through JRAC for 2021

We have a team of great coaches lined up for 2021! We are excited to welcome back Coach Abbey Crank as our Head Swim Coach and to bring on Erica Stanley as our new Assistant Swim Coach. We are fortunate to have Coach Ezra Boswell returning as the Head Dive Coach and Hillary Mills as the Assistant Dive Coach. These coaches know our kids and our community.

We expect practices will look very similar to last year, with required distancing both on the pool deck and in the water. If COVID numbers continue to fall in the spring and summer, some restrictions may be lifted. Thankfully both of our swim coaches will be fully vaccinated by the start of the season.

A big question many people have had is what swim and dive meets will look like. We will have a full schedule of six swim meets and Champs, but how the meets are conducted may vary. For meets at larger pools, where people can spread out easily, we may have meets in-person. For smaller pools that would not allow for adequate spacing, we may have “virtual meets” where swimmers swim at their home pools, but then submit times for the meet, and there are other possible configurations, too. We will have a full schedule of five dive meets and Champs, most likely all in person, but again, we have flexibility from JRAC to do what works best for us.

JRAC has made clear that we can be as flexible as we need to be within the guidelines that they will be establishing in April. The number one priority in how these decisions are made will be safety. We hope to be able to offer more specifics prior to registration opening at the end of April, but we wanted to give everyone as much general information about the upcoming swim and dive season as we could now, while people are making their summer plans and schedules.

Success of swim and dive teams depends on participation! We hope to see many returning swimmers and divers, and lots of new faces this year, too. Tell your friends how much fun it is to be a Woodmont Wahoo and sign up as soon as you receive your registration email in late April to secure your child’s spot on the team!

Thank you, and please reach out to an Aquatics Committee member if you have any questions or if you would like to get involved as a committee member. Additionally, if you have a business, consider becoming a WRA Swim & Dive Sponsor to support the team and promote your business and services to our community!

Looking forward to warmer days ahead,

The Aquatics Committee
