Getting Ready for Woodmont Swim & Dive Season!

We are excited to be getting ready for the
Wahoos 2024 Swim and Dive Season!

  • Earlier Start to Swim & Dive Season
  • Registration will open in early April
  • 2024 Team Coaches (Hiring for one more spot!)
  • Volunteer Requirements and Opportunities
  • Spring Swim Clinics and Lessons

Earlier Start to Swim & Dive Season

To better align with the changes to the public school schedules, our league, JRAC, voted to move the season up by one week, so we will have an earlier start and an earlier finish to our swim and dive season. Practices will begin May 13 (dry land if the water is too chilly), the first meet will be June 2nd or 3rd, and the last regular season meet will be July 8, with the Champs meet the following week. Depending on the weather and the water temperatures this may mean fewer days of practice in the water than in prior years before that first meet, but don’t worry, swimmers from all teams will be in the same situation!

Swim & Dive registration will open in early April

Watch for an email the first week of April for Swim and Dive team registration to begin. Registration is open to all Woodmont Pool members age 5-18. For safety and to get the most out of practice, Swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted (doggie paddle is completely fine!) The first week of in-the-water practice, there will be a swim assessment for our youngest swimmers, and for those new to the team. Swimmers who are not yet quite ready for Swim team will be referred to our Junior Wahoos program, where they will be able to work on their swim skills in a smaller group setting.

2024 Team Coaches

We are thrilled to have many returning coaches for the 2024 Swim and Dive season! Coach Luke will lead the Swim team as Head Coach this year, Coach Molly returns as Assistant Coach, and we are interviewing for another Assistant to round out the Swim coaching staff. Coach Mason and Coach Xavier return to lead the Dive team. Our coaches are committed to leading the teams guided by the principles of good sportsmanship, teamwork, individual and team improvement, and competitiveness with a focus on fun. If you know someone who might be interested in joining our swim coaching staff this year, please click here and share the job description with them. We have a great season ahead!

Volunteer Requirements and Opportunities

We all make the Swim and Dive season happen together, especially the Swim meets! Each returning Swim family needs to have at least one adult family member complete JRAC training later this spring in one of these areas: Strokes and Turns, Clerk of Course, Head Table, Starter, Head Timer, Computer Training, Referee. Watch for more information to come about trainings. There should be a virtual training option for most of these roles, making it very easy to meet this requirement and be a valuable volunteer resource for the team at the meets.

We will also have some opportunities on the Aquatics Committee this year and would love to have some new people and ideas to help coordinate the team from behind the scenes:

-Volunteer Coordinators–join a team of three people, you won’t be alone!
-JRAC League Rep–this is a shadowing role this year, stepping into the role in 2025
-Event and Hospitality Coordinators–two or three more people to help with coordinating
Meet Meals, the Duck Dive, Banquet, and other special events.
