Winter Swim Opportunities + Water Country Tomorrow

Hello Wahoos!

Congratulations to our Swim and Dive Champs teams for great representation in the Champs meets this week! Below is some information about winter swim opportunities in the area and the optional Water Country trip (tomorrow.)

Winter Swim Opportunities

If you have a swimmer who has loved being in the water this summer and would like to continue swimming in some capacity, there are lots of opportunities in the Richmond area. Below are just a few that some of our Woodmont families participate in with their kids.

Sunday Swim Clinics at University of Richmond-Once a week clinics coached by NCAA Division 1 staff and athletes. Great way to work on fundamentals without a big commitment.

YMCA Winter Swim Team-Two evening practices a week and a Saturday afternoon swim meet about once per month. Two sessions: September-December and January-March. Kids can do either or both. Woodmont has swimmers on the Manchester Y, Midlothian Y, and Tuckahoe Y teams. Clinics and lessons also available.

SwimRVA Rapids Swim Team-Varying levels of practice and meet participation expectations, commitment is month-to-month after registration fees. Several information sessions coming up. Woodmont has swimmers that are on the team. Clinics and lessons also available throughout the year.

NOVA of Virginia Aquatics-Varying levels of practice and meet participation expectations, commitment is on an annual basis. Contact to learn more and set-up an evaluation for practice group placement. Woodmont has a number of athletes on the team. Lessons and spring clinics also available.

And there are other year-round swim opportunities in the area that Google can guide you to!

Water Country

Don't forget the optional team outing to Water Country tomorrow, Friday, July 18! Reminder that this is not a team sponsored or led day, in fact most aquatics committee members and coaches are not even able to attend due to work and other commitments, but we hope everyone going has a great day. Every kid going needs to have an adult that is responsible for them and their safety and conduct, but it can be a friend’s parent or a babysitter, it does not have to be their own parent or guardian.

Friday, July 18--Consider wearing Woodmont team shirts to make it easy to spot friends!

8:45am-Meet in the Woodmont Pool parking lot if you want to caravan.
9am-Caravan heads out, no worries if you are running late, just go straight to the park!
10:30am-Park opens, groups ride, slide, and float around the park at their own pace.
1pm-ish-Those who want to can connect with friends for a treat or lunch in the area near Coolsville and Catalina Grille, pink star on the map below. If you are in line for a slide or are not hungry yet, you can just catch up with friends later!
Leaving time-At your discretion! Some kids may be ready to go after a few hours, some may be in it for the WHOLE DAY (but are the parents?!)

Have fun if you are going!
